Dr Terence Tan

Cataract Surgery, Medical Retina and General Ophthalmology

Dr Tan is a comprehensive ophthalmologist with a subspecialty in medical retina and specialises in cataract surgery. As the Co-Director of Marsden Research Centre, he is a Principal Investigator in International clinical trials investigating new therapies in diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration and retinal vascular diseases. He is a member of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Retinal Specialists.

Dr Tan is a medical graduate from the University of NSW and obtained his ophthalmology training at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney. He received a UNSW research scholarship for his Master of Science in Research investigating stem cell regenerative therapy and has a Master in Medicine (Ophthalmic Science) from the University of Sydney completing his treatise on Retinopathy of Prematurity. He has received the F. Colin Courtice research award for scientific excellence, St George Hospital Young Investigator Award and was acknowledged on the Faculty of Medicine Dean’s List from the University of New South Wales for outstanding contribution to research.

In 2014, Dr Tan was the Fred Hollows Foundation Fellow delivering eye care to communities in Alice Springs, Fiji and Solomon Islands. He was a Visiting Medical Officer at Broken Hill Base Hospital from 2015-2024 and served on the RANZCO Board of Ophthalmic Sciences Examiners in Anatomy from 2019-2024. Dr Tan is from Singapore and holds the rank of Captain (Reservist) in the Singapore Armed Forces Medical Corps.
